Severe Weather Alert for QLD and Northern NSW Residents

February 13, 2026 by Jacqueline Herzog

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather alert for Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales, with forecasts indicating the potential for up to 400mm of rainfall over the coming days.

This developing system is expected to bring rapidly changing conditions, an increased risk of flash flooding, and increased pressure on building infrastructure. Property owners, residents, and strata communities are encouraged to stay alert and take precautions where it is safe to do so.

Property owners, residents, and strata communities are encouraged to remain alert and take action where safe to do so.

Areas Impacted

A wide area could be affected, with warnings in place for areas including Gold Coast, Brisbane, Toowoomba, Dalby, Kingaroy, Caboolture, Caloundra, Ipswich, Gatton, Cleveland, Cherbourg, Jimboomba and Kilcoy.

Stay safe and prepared

  • Limit travel unless essential: Roads may become hazardous with little warning.
  • Secure or bring in outdoor items to prevent damage or obstruction.
  • Be ready for potential power interruptions by charging devices, keeping torches and battery powered radio accessible.
  • Never walk, ride, or drive through floodwaters – even shallow water can be dangerous.
  • Check in on neighbours who may need assistance: Including elderly residents or those living alone.
  • Keep pets indoors and ensure they have a safe, calm space.
  • Move vehicles to higher ground when safe to do so.
  • Protect valuables and important documents by storing them above floor level or in waterproof containers.
  • Review your household or building emergency plan and ensure everyone knows key contacts.
  • If you become trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge on higher ground if available, and call 000.
